MATHADI BOARD

Over 95 per cent of India’s workforce is informal, meaning they are out of the purview of labour laws. Most of the legislative protection and welfare programmes for workers in India are restricted to less than 5-10 per cent of the workforce. We studied Mathadi Boards, a tripartite employment and labour regulation board, as a 'success' story in the regulation of informal workers.

We found that it offers a wide range of benefits for workers, but it is being neglected by the state.
